How does MPINGI work? |
What is VoIP?
MPINGI works on a technology called VoIP (Voice
over Internet Protocol). VoIP enables the
transmission of voice data over the Internet
using a voice adapter. By utilizing the power
of the Internet, rather than the traditional
phone network, MPINGI can deliver more powerful
features and greater cost savings.
Can I change My MPINGI phone numbers?
Yes. Please contact Customer Support to change
a MPINGI phone number (at no cost).
Do I need a Broadband Connection to
use MPINGI?
Yes. You can use DSL or Cable, but you must
have a high-speed connection to use MPINGI
Service. Your modem speed needs to be at least
100 kbps upstream and downstream to use MPINGI
Service.
Do I need a computer to use your service?
No. MPINGI Service operates independently of
the computer. You do need a broadband connection
- either cable or DSL. MPINGI is easy to
install and once you have it installed; all
you will need to do is pick up the handset
and talk as you would normally.
How do I make and receive calls?
Just like you would on any normal telephone.
If the number you are calling has the same
area code as your MPINGI Household Number,
all you need to do is dial the last 7 digits
of the number. Add the area code for calls
outside your area. You dont need to dial "1" for
long distance calls, but if you dial a "1" out
of habit, your call will still go through.
In turn, when you hear your phone ring, pick
up the receiver and start talking, same as
always.
Can I work on my computer and talk
on the phone at the same time?
Yes. MPINGI Service works independent of your
computer, so you can make and receive calls
while surfing the web.
When calling other parties, do they
also need to use MPINGI Service or some other
type of VoIP service?
No, when you call using MPINGI Service you
can use your phone just like you always have
- pick it up, dial anyone, anywhere and start
talking!
How does the sound quality compare
to my current phone?
You'll find the quality is typically better
than a cell phone and usually as good as a
landline. You may experience some hiccups in
sound quality if your broadband connection
is running slowly or if your bandwidth is stretched
with additional data (sending or receiving
files from your PC at the same time). Three-way
calling may also cause some disruptions if
your modem speed is less than 180 kbps.
Can I use my traditional phone service
if I sign up for MPINGI Service?
Yes. Your regular phone service is not affected
by MPINGI Service. MPINGI Service operates
through your broadband connection and does
not interfere with your regular phone service.
However, once you realize the great value and
savings from MPINGI, you may want to downgrade
your traditional plan to something less expensive
or do away with traditional service all together.
Will my dial-up connection work with
MPINGI Service?
No, you will need a broadband or high-speed
Internet connection. To deliver good voice
quality, MPINGI service needs about 100 kbps
of bandwidth, whereas the best that Dial-up
can deliver is about 64 kbps.

your computer or a router, you can have MPINGI
Service up and running in about 15 minutes.
If you're installing MPINGI Service using

still relatively easy. If you have any questions

Is there a difference between using
DSL or a Cable modem when using MPINGI Service?
Both DSL and cable modem services provide sufficient
broadband bandwidth to support MPINGI Service.
As long as your speed is above 100 kbps, your
modem will support MPINGI Service. If you want
to transfer an existing phone number to MPINGI,
you should be using Cable high-speed service.
DSL service typically requires you to keep
your phone number active with the DSL carrier.
Do I need a router for my MPINGI Service?
If you received your equipment directly from
MPINGI, you may not need a router.
Can I use my current telephone equipment
with MPINGI Service?
Yes, if it is a touch-tone phone and can be
plugged into the MPINGI ATA.
Why can't I receive inbound calls
immediately after installation?
In some areas, inbound calling is not available
up to 10 days after you have received your
equipment. This delay is due to the time it
takes to activate your new phone number.

Can I use a fax machine with MPINGI
Service?
Depending on your equipment, a fax machine
may work with MPINGI Service. The vast majority
of current consumer grade fax machines and
the increasingly popular all-in-one printer/fax/scanner
machines available via national retailers provide
a consistent level of service. Look for Fax
Transmission Speeds described in terms like
"G3 compatible" (avoid "Super
G3"), "sends 1 page per 6 seconds" or "modem
speed at 9,600 bps or 14,400 bps"
(sometimes shown as 14.4kbps). If your fax

What happens to my service if I move?
As long as you move within the MPINGI Service area,
you can take your equipment with you and keep
on calling. Just remember: E911 is only provided
within the MPINGI Service area, and you MUST
update your new location for E911 to function
properly. Call MPINGI Customer Support to make
a change to your home address.
How do I make an International Call from
my MPINGI phone?
Make international calls just like always. With
MPINGI Service great international rates are automatically
included. You don't need to pay an extra fee or
sign up for a special international plan.
International dialing with MPINGI works just like
traditional phone service. First, dial the international
prefix (IDD prefix). This is the code required
to dial a call FROM your location TO another country.
To call out of the United States, this code is
011. Next, you must dial the country code for the
country you are calling. These codes and the international
rates can be found in the International
Call Rates page. Lastly, dial the
city/area code and number associated with the place
or person you are trying to reach.
Dialing from the U.S.: Dial 011 + (country code)
+ (city/area code) + (number)

Emergency
911 |
Does MPINGI provide 911 (emergency
dialing) service?
MPINGI provides Enhanced 911 service at no
extra charge. The safety of our customers is
important, and we have built a network that
supports the most sophisticated 911 technology
available to the VoIP industry.
With Enhanced 911, your call is routed to the
Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) supporting
the service address you registered with your
account. The emergency operator receives the
name, address, and origination phone number
of the caller. With this service, the caller
does not need to verbally give their location
to the operator.
While Enhanced 911 is the most advanced form
of Emergency Dialing Service available, there
are some limitations when it is provided by
a VoIP provider such as MPINGI. Therefore,
you should always have an alternate means of
accessing emergency service.
How does MPINGI's ability to deliver
911 differ from traditional phone service?
The greatest difference between MPINGI E911
service and traditional E911 service is MPINGI's
reliance upon a functioning adapter and full
power to your house. Electrical power outages
and disruptions to your high-speed service
connection will deactivate your MPINGI Service,
and you will be unable to complete 911 calls
through MPINGI.
Also, you must select a Household (primary)
Number that is associated with your Service
Address otherwise E911 service will not be
available. Calls to 911 service route to the
appropriate emergency administrator based on
the telephone number you have chosen and the
geographic location that you have provided
to MPINGI. E911 must be available in your area
for MPINGI to offer you this service.
What is 911 Dialing ?
With 911 dialing, the emergency operator receives
the name, address, and origination phone
number of the caller. This is the type of
Emergency Service that is provided by traditional
local phone service and also provided by
MPINGI. Some people like to refer to it as "real
911". This just means that MPINGI's
E911 functions like traditional E911, routing
to the same Emergency Call Centers and providing
the same level of identification support.
However, please remember that there are serious
limitations associated with 911 service provided
by MPINGI, and you should always maintain
an alternate means of accessing emergency
service.
What must I do to activate Emergency
Dialing with MPINGI?
MPINGI will activate Emergency Dialing automatically
for you as part of your service. You do not
need to take any extra steps outside of the
ordering process for Emergency Dialing to be
activated on your MPINGI account.
When will Emergency Dialing be activated
on my MPINGI phones?
In most cases, your 911 service should function
properly soon after you activate your MPINGI
Service, but in some cases it could take up
to 30 days to ensure that 911 calls are being
routed with the correct address information
to the emergency dispatch center that serves
your location. During this period, you may
have to provide your name and address information
to the emergency operator who answers an E911
call.
What happens to my Emergency Dialing
service if I travel or move with my MPINGI
equipment?
MPINGI Service is portable to any location
with broadband Internet access. If you travel,
you can take your MPINGI equipment with you
and your service will work in any location
with broadband Internet access. However, do
NOT dial 911 whenever using your MPINGI equipment
in a location other than the service address
associated with your MPINGI account, since
emergency service will not be properly dispatched.
If you move or intend to use your MPINGI Service
away from home for an extended period of time,
you must update your new location for 911 to
function properly. Call MPINGI Customer Support
at 1-888-6-MPINGI to make a change to your
home address. Remember, it will take up to
21 days for this change to complete, and you
should always maintain an alternate means of
accessing emergency service.
What else should I know about Emergency
Dialing with MPINGI?
Please refer to the Terms
Of Service for other important
limitations and considerations of using 911
emergency service.

Transferring
a Phone Number |
Can I keep my current phone number
if I sign up for MPINGI Service?
Yes, you may keep the existing phone number
and ' port ' to your MPINGI phone, as long
as you are in the MPINGI Service area, use
a Cable modem, and are not affected by any
other eligibility limitations. After sign up
you will have the opportunity to request the
transfer of an existing phone number using
your online My MPINGI account.
This process may take upto four weeks
as your existing carrier will have to hand
over the number to us. You may find that your
carrier may not hand over the number to us
unless all your payments are current.
What are the eligibility limitations
in porting my number to MPINGI?
Most numbers can be transferred to MPINGI.
However, there are some limitations.
- You must sign up and open an active MPINGI
account.
- The number you are transferring must be
in a MPINGI serviceable area. Out-of-area
numbers cannot be transferred.
- If you have DSL on the number, then it
cannot be transferred
- If you have a household system (such as
an alarm, satellite TV, or TiVo) which uses
the number you're requesting to be transferred,
then you should not transfer your number
as the transfer may disrupt the functionality
of the system.
- You must live in the service area of the
phone number you are transferring. If the
phone number is from a different location,
the transfer will not be complete.
- Certain services and limitations associated
with your existing telephone service may
delay or prohibit completion of the transfer.
Examples include, but are not limited to:
1) service through a competitive local exchange
carrier 2) distinctive ring 3) shared lines.
- Cellular Numbers can typically be transferred,
but your cellular service would be discontinued
with your cellular carrier as part of the
transfer process.
How long does it take to transfer
my current phone number to MPINGI?
Transferring your number may take up to 30
business days from receipt of your online request
form using your My MPINGI account. MPINGI must
provide sufficient documentation to your existing
phone company to authorize and facilitate the
transfer, according to the process and timetable
determined by your existing phone company.
MPINGI will email you, with the target transfer
date and follow-up again with confirmation
when the transfer is complete.
What happens while my number is being
transferred?
While your number is being transferred, MPINGI
will assign you a Household Number that you
can use for incoming and outgoing calls. Your
existing phone number will stay active with
your current local and long distance carrier(s).
You are responsible for all charges associated
with your other phone service account while
the transfer is in process. MPINGI will email
you with the target transfer date and follow-up
again with confirmation when the transfer is
complete.
Do I need to call my current local
or long distance carrier and cancel my old
service?
Please do not cancel your existing service
with your current local and/or long distance
carrier until you receive notice from MPINGI
confirming that the transfer is complete. Once
the transfer is complete, please call your
original local and/or long distance carrier
to ensure that your account has been properly
canceled. Please note, canceling these services
prior to completion of the transfer will result
in a disruption of the transfer.
What happens to my MPINGI numbers
after my phone number transfers?
Once the transfer is done, MPINGI will replace
your original Household Number with your transferred
number, and your original Household Number
will automatically become a Signature Number.
You will be charged an additional $3.00 per
month for any number over the allotment included
with your service plan. If you would like to
delete your original Household Number, or any
other number from your account, please contact
Customer Support after the transfer process
is complete.
Can I delete a number from my account
so I don't have to pay the $3.00 per month
for any number over the two included with
my plan?
Absolutely, if you would like to delete your
original Household Number, or any other number
from your account, please contact Customer
Support after the transfer process is complete.
Please wait until the transfer process is successfully
completed before deleting a number, otherwise,
this could cause a disruption in your service.
There is no charge to delete a number.
If my number can't be transferred,
can I still use MPINGI Service?
Absolutely. As long as you live in a MPINGI
service area, you can choose a new phone number
for use with MPINGI. If you are using DSL,
your DSL provider will require you to keep
a voice line active with their company. Some
MPINGI customers with DSL chose to downgrade
their traditional phone service to a low-cost
local plan and use MPINGI for the majority
of their calling.

Why are international calls placed
to cell phones sometimes more expensive than
international calls placed to landline phones
in the same destination?
In some cases, international calls
placed to cell phones are more expensive than
calls placed to a landline phone in the same
international area because of the associated
call termination charges that the cell phone
provider charges. Cell phone termination charges
vary by country and cell phone provider.

I heard that taxes associated with
Internet phone service are significantly
less than with regular phone service. Is
this true?
Presently, Internet phone service is classified
as an "interstate enhanced service" that
is exempt from state regulation, as well as
from state and local fees and taxes that apply
to traditional telephone companies. Congress
and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
have initiated proceedings regarding the regulation
of Internet phone services, which may affect
future tax policies.
What taxes and surcharges will I have

Currently there are no taxes, however you are
liable to pay a small regulatory and 911 fees
of $0.99 each per month.

My MPINGI account.
When will my credit card be charged?
You will first be charged on the date that
your MPINGI equipment is shipped. You will

based on your monthly usage and plan anniversary.

Traveling
& Moving |
Can I travel with my MPINGI Service?
One of the great benefits of MPINGI Service
is that you can take your number anywhere
in the world. Bring your MPINGI equipment
with you and connect it anywhere that you
get a high-speed connection. You'll be able
to make and receive calls as if you were
home. Remember, 911 Dialing may not function
properly if you are using the service away
from home.
What happens to my Emergency Dialing
service if I travel or move with my MPINGI
equipment?
MPINGI service is portable to any location
with broadband Internet access. If you travel,
you can take your MPINGI equipment with you
and your service will work in any location
with broadband Internet access. However, do
NOT dial 911 whenever using your MPINGI equipment
in a location other than the service address
associated with your MPINGI account, since
emergency service will not be properly rendered.
If you move or intend to use your MPINGI Service
away from home for an extended period of time,
you must update your new location in order
for 911 to function properly. Call MPINGI
Customer Support or change current
address in My
MPINGI control panel. Remember,
it will take up to 30 days for this change
to complete, and you should always maintain
an alternative means of accessing emergency
service.
However, if you move the MPINGI phone outside
the continental US, 911 dialing will not work.

Referrals & Rewards |
Does MPINGI have a referral
program?
Yes, MPINGI has a referral program. For every
two referrals who signup, you get a month's MPINGI
service absolutely free.
What offer is extended to my friend
if I make a referral?
The referral offer will periodically change.
To find out which offer is available today,
log onto the My MPINGI account and choose "Rewards".
My friend bought MPINGI equipment
at a retailer. Can I still get referral points?
Unfortunately, retail purchases do not qualify
for referral points at this time.

Glossary |
A
Anonymous Call Rejection
Lets you block calls that are set as anonymous
on Caller ID so that they don't ring through
to your phone. The anonymous caller will hear
a fast busy signal and you no longer have to
worry about taking a call from somebody you
may not know.
AnyWhere Number
An AnyWhere number is a phone number, or signature
number, that you choose in addition to your
household number (additional charges may apply
depending on the service plan). This number
has an area code outside your home location
and allows friends and family in another location
to contact you as if it were a local call.
For example, say your sister lives in Chicago
but you live in Baltimore. You can add an Anywhere
Number with a Chicago area code and save her
the long distance charges!
B
Bandwidth
Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be
sent over a communications channel in a fixed
period of time. The higher the channel’s
bandwidth the more information it can carry.
It can be stated in bits per second (bps),
kilobits per second (kbps), or megabits per
second (mbps). MPINGI states bandwidth in kbps
and recommends at least a 100 kbps upstream
and downstream for MPINGI service.
Blocking 900/976
All calls to 900, 976 and related phone numbers
are automatically blocked for your protection.
Broadband
Broadband is high-speed Internet access that
you get through a cable or DSL modem. It has
a continuous connection to the Internet at
much faster speeds than dial-up. With MPINGI
service, high-speed broadband connection is
needed.
C
Cable Modem
A cable modem is a device supplied to you by
your local cable company that connects you
to the Internet. It provides high-speed Internet
access.
Caller ID with Name
Lets you view the name and number of each incoming
call on your handset's display unit.
Call Logs
Use a simple web interface to see a list of
all incoming, outgoing, and missed calls for
each of your MPINGI numbers.
Call Return
Retrieve and call the telephone number of your
last incoming call by dialing *69.
Call Waiting
Allows you to accept an incoming phone call
while you are on the phone. Put the first call
on hold while you answer the second call.
Call Waiting ID
Signals another incoming call with the name
and number of the person calling.
Click to Call
Automatically place calls directly from your
Call Logs or Contacts. Click on the number
you wish to dial and the number will automatically
be dialed for you. When dialing is completed
your phone will ring. Once you pick up the
reciever the call will be connected.
Contacts
Keep track of frequently dialed numbers by
accessing your Contacts within the MPINGI My
MPINGI account. Your Contacts let you quickly
find phone numbers and email addresses, sort
contacts by category, and operate Click to
Call.
D
Directory Assistance
Directory Assistance is available with MPINGI
Service. Simply dial the Directory Assistance
numbers you've always used. Charge is $.79
per use, unless included with your service
plan.
Distinctive Rings
Choose from 4 different ring patterns to assign
to any Signature Number (additional phone number).
If you have multiple numbers this will indicate
which number is being called.
Do Not Disturb
Limit unwanted interruptions by enabling Do
Not Disturb. This feature will prevent incoming
calls from ringing through. Instead calls will
be directed straight to Voicemail. Turn Do
Not Disturb on and off by logging onto your
My MPINGI account.
DSL
DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line. It
is a technology that provides a high-speed
Internet connection over ordinary copper telephone
lines.
E
Enhanced 911
The type of Emergency Service provided by MPINGI
to all new members.
With Enhanced 911, your call is routed to the
Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) supporting
the service address you registered with your
account. The emergency operator receives name,
address, and originating phone number of the
caller. With this service, the caller does
not need to verbally give their location to
the operator.
While Enhanced 911 is the most advanced form
of Emergency Dialing Service available, there
are some limitations when it is provided by
a VoIP provider as MPINGI. Therefore,
you should always have an alternative means
of accessing emergency service.
F
Find Me
Allows incoming calls to "find you" at
multiple phone numbers, one after another.
If you don't answer, the call will move on
to the next number. If you don't pick up the
phone, the call terminates at Voicemail.
H
Household Number
Your Household Number is a lot like the home
telephone number you may use today, and it
comes with an optional white pages listing.
This will be the number that displays on Caller
ID when anyone makes an outbound call from
your home.
I
International Call Blocking
Control unwanted per minute costs by blocking
international dialing from your My MPINGI account.

your MPINGI Service once you hook up your equipment
and hear a dial tone. Dial like normal using
an Area Code + Number, or just 7 digits within
your own area code. You do not need to dial
a "1" for long distance calls, but
if you dial a "1" out of habit, your
call will still go through.
Outbound Caller ID Blocking
Prevent your name and telephone number from
appearing on your call recipient's Caller ID
display by dialing *67 before the phone number.
Must be done on a per-call basis.
P
Power Source
Plugs into a regular home outlet and supplies
power to your equipment.
R
Risk-Free Guarantee
Our risk-free, money back guarantee. If you are
canceling within the first 30 days of purchase,
you qualify for MPINGI's 30 day risk-free
guarantee. However, if you purchased your
equipment from a retailer and would like a refund
for that equipment, you will need to follow that
retailer's return/exchange policy. MPINGI will
refund your money if you cancel within the first
30 days (international and directory assistance
usage is not included).
Router
If you use a router to send broadband data between
multiple computers or to enable a wireless card,
MPINGI Service will still work. Some MPINGI equipment
requires a router to share Internet connections.
Check the packaging for system requirements.

phone number that you assign to a member of

the country or across the globe, your family
and friends can call you like you're right
next door.
Voicemail
MPINGI Voicemail does so much more for you
than an answering machine. Now you can listen
to your messages on your phone or through your
computer. Receive voicemail alerts instantaneously
through your phone, email, cell phone, or even
instant messenger.
Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
VoIP enables the transmission of voice data
over the Internet using a voice adapter. By
utilizing the power of the Internet, rather
than the traditional phone network, MPINGI
can deliver more powerful features and greater
cost savings.
